A 2/0 extra-wide-gap hook covers most of what gets Texas-rigged in a day: a five-inch stickbait, a beaver-style creature bait, a small craw. Gamakatsu's version is the one we reach for first, and it is what we tell people to buy when the goal is to stop thinking about hooks.
The point is what earns it. It comes out of the pack sticky-sharp, sharp enough to catch on a thumbnail with almost no pressure, and it keeps that bite through a day of dragging grass and ticking rock. That matters more than any number here. In a category where the budget packs make you check every point before you tie on, not checking is the whole luxury.
The rest of the build is quietly right. The extra-wide gap lets a bulky craw fold into the bend instead of balling up in front of the point, the closed eye leaves no open gap for a knot to work into, and the offset shank holds the nose of the bait where you put it. Twenty-five hooks in one size is about a season if you lose a couple a trip, so you stop rationing the good one.
One size per pack is the catch: covering everything from a four-inch finesse worm to a seven-inch ribbon tail means several packs, and we keep two of the 2/0 in the boat box with the rest at home. When you rig, run the point just barely under the skin of the plastic. With this gap and this point, that is plenty to set on.
Pros
- Sharp out of the pack and stays that way
- True extra-wide gap clears bulky plastics
- Closed eye and offset shank hold bait and knot
- 25 hooks in one size means no rationing
Cons
- Black finish scuffs off on rocky bottom
If you want one hook that covers most Texas-rig plastics and care more about the point than the count, this is the pack we reach for first.
