Key details
- Type
- Liquid cement
- Finish
- Clear
- Cure Time
- 15 seconds
- Viscosity
- Low
The 15-second set time is the first thing we noticed, because it changes how a head cement fits into a tying session. Z-Ment is thin enough to sink into thread wraps instead of sitting on top, so a small drop is usually all we need at the head of a nymph or streamer. We reach for it when we want a clear, low-build finish without reaching for a UV light.
Low viscosity is the useful part. It travels into the thread rather than forming a dome, which makes it a good match for small trout flies, thread collars, and any pattern where a heavy gloss looks wrong. The clear finish disappears over dark and light thread alike. Because it sets fast, we can finish a batch and move on without waiting for a tacky stage to pass.
What it does not do is build a thick head or fill a gap around a heavy eye; that is a different product. For everyday thread security, though, that simplicity is the appeal. One bottle lives in a bench drawer, needs no batteries, and works on the materials we tie with most. If you want one conventional cement to learn on, this is the one we hand over first.
Pros
- Thin formula wicks into thread
- Sets in about 15 seconds
- Clear finish with no UV light
Cons
No notable drawbacks to flag.
Wapsi Z-Ment is the one clear, no-light head cement we recommend for sinking into thread and setting fast.
