The first thing we noticed about the Wifreo 64-piece box is that it doesn't make you choose between a wet-fly box and a nymph box. The selection runs across dry flies, wet flies, nymphs, and streamers, and the subsurface patterns are the reason it earns a spot here. For a trout angler building a vest box, one container covers soft hackles, beadheads, and a few streamers instead of three separate purchases.
We like the compact box for wader pockets and day packs. The lid is organized, the case is waterproof, and the flies stay put when you open it on a windy bank. The hooks are sharp high-carbon steel, and the patterns are tied well enough to fish straight out of the box. The box was the piece we kept coming back to because it was easy to grab and easy to sort.
The 64-piece set is not a dedicated wet-fly-only selection. The dry patterns are along for the ride, and a purist may prefer a nymph-only box. For most trout anglers, that breadth is the point: you can fish a soft hackle in the film, drop a beadhead through a run, and swing a streamer at the tailout without opening a second box.
What sold us was the compact footprint. It slides into a vest pocket and keeps a small wet-fly, nymph, and streamer selection together, which is the version of a wet-fly box we want to carry.
Pros
- Covers wet flies, nymphs, and streamers
- Compact waterproof fly box
- Sharp high-carbon hooks
Cons
- Limited to #10 and #14 hook sizes
We recommend the Wifreo 64-piece box as the default wet-fly kit because it covers wet flies, nymphs, and streamers in one compact, pocketable box without forcing you to buy three separate assortments.
